BLACK CREEK | Sunday 10am

Church BY the sea

Mindful Movement + ocean cleanse + fire

Contrary to our ancestors we lack one very important thing that ceremonies and rituals provide. An element that is crucial not only for our personal happiness but also for the maintenance of a healthy society: community.

What to expect

When you arrive, you will be greeted by your hosts, Nicole & Megan. The service starts at 10AM, you're welcome to arrive a few minutes early, grab a tea and settle into your spot.

The gathering includes a few welcoming words, a brief reading, mindful movement (yin yoga), an ocean cleanse, closing chant and ending with tea around the fire.

The mindful movement is a yin inspired sequence designed to help move grief and stagnant energies through your body.

The ocean cleanse is, dipping, plunging or swimming into the ocean at your own pace. You can choose to stay on the beach and find stillness in your own way, or you can swim out into the water.

Everything we offer is simply an invitation, and never a requirement.

who is invited?

You are! The purpose of Church by the Sea is, first and foremost, to provide a sense of unity within our community. Anyone that feels called to join us, is welcome to!

Come alone, or gather your family or friends. As this event is hosted on private property, and there is a limit to how many folks can attend, you are required to RSVP via the form and we will send you the directions and details.

Hosted by
Megan Lane + Nicole Berns

Co-hosts, Megan and Nicole, met at their local yoga studio and together have bonded over the life-lesson that if you follow passions fully led by purpose, your life just works. Together, they inspire each other to keep uncovering their true selves.

This gathering was created on the foundation of all the things they love; time in nature, new experiences + building community.

This service was created with a very special person in mind, Megan’s late Mother, JoAnn.  October 16th will mark 29 years since her death. In honour of JoAnn, Megan + Nicole have put together a secular gathering that is inspired by her love for Sunday service.

JoAnn loved having the routine of regular ritual and ceremony, as well as the sense of community, that Church provided for her. Fusing those, with Megan’s passion for creating space, and Nicole's innate ability to mindfully lead a group, they have created Church by the Sea.

Community connected by a desire to live more mindfully.

An invitation to look inward, learn + connect.

What should I bring?

This is an outdoor event on a rural property, please dress accordingly.

For the movement practice you'll need a yoga mat or blanket and comfortable clothing.

For the swim, you will need something to swim in, a towel, water shoes (if desired) and a warm change of clothes.

Please come to the service wearing your swim suit (under your comfy clothes), so we can transition from mindful movement to ocean cleanse without delay. There are washroom facilities onsite and time will be provided after the swim to change into dry clothing.

We have ample seating available (picnic tables) but you are welcome to bring your favourite comfy camping chair if you'd like.

Oh, and a mug for hot tea or coffee! Tea + coffee will be provided.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Megan via Instagram or email
